SYSTEM and SYSTEM Lady Jackets

The redesigned SYSTEM Jacket is one of the highlights of the GORE RUNNING WEAR™ autumn/winter 2009/ collection. This outstanding jacket utilises the new generation of GORE™ comfort mapping technology to offer numerous options in terms of functionality and design.

Clemens Deilmann, designer for GORE RUNNING WEAR™ at W.L. Gore & Associates, describes the special features and advantages of the new SYSTEM Jacket:

What exactly is the new generation of comfort mapping?
It is a new method of laminating in which lining fabric, with different properties, is applied to a special GORE-TEX® laminate.
The design is more adaptable and, at the same time, the needs of the body’s individual climate zones are more specifically and efficiently catered for: warmth regulation, accurate fit, ventilation, breathability and wearing comfort are optimised precisely where they are most needed.

What opportunities does this offer you as a designer?
The shell, the outer material, can be designed virtually independently of the jacket’s internal functional features. To put it another way, this means that runners are wearing a very simply designed jacket in which the lining is ideally suited to the body’s requirements.

What specific advantages does the new comfort mapping in the SYSTEM jacket provide for running and how is the technology implemented?
Extremely light GORE-TEX® Performance Shell with good stretch properties is used for the jacket’s outer material which means fewer seams and cuts are necessary. This significantly improves fit and freedom of movement when running. For the interior of the jacket, lining fabric with different properties is adapted to the zones of the body. The lightest available materials with the desired performance features are integrated into the ‘Warmth’, ‘Comfort’, and ‘Vent’ sections. In the ‘Warmth’ zone, for example, the challenge was to achieve exactly the right level of warmth with the lightest possible material. For the lady’s jacket the cut and lining have been designed to suit the female anatomy and physiological requirements. Overall, for the runner this means better fit and greater wearing comfort in extremely lightweight material, as well as warmth, ventilation and the rapid wicking away of moisture.

For which runners and applications was the SYSTEM Jacket designed?
Thanks to the GORE-TEX® Performance Shell the SYSTEM Jacket is completely waterproof, windproof and breathable, making it suitable for ambitious runners who don’t want to miss out on their usual running session even in rain or snow or at temperatures between 0 and 15C.
